Mesotherapy is a non-surgical cosmetic medical treatment that involves the injection of pharmaceutical and homeopathic medications designed to promote lipolysis (cell death) amongst the fat cells in the body. This method of targeting fat cells has been in use extensively in Europe since the 1950’s, and is gaining increased popularity in the United States as well. It’s continued popularity is attributed to it’s effectiveness in helping patients achieve their cosmetic goals by removing stubborn unwanted fatty deposits from various parts of the body that generally aren’t responsive to diet and exercise.

How is mesotherapy performed?

Mesotherapy involves the injection of mildly acidic formulations into the dermal layer of the skin, resulting in targeted cell death of fat cells beneath the skin layer. Our clinic uses a tried and true formulation that is extremely efficacious in the reduction of fatty cells within the dermis. Treatment protocols usually involve 1 treatment per week. The total number of treatments needed to achieve a suitable effect typically vary based on area being targeted.

Is mesotherapy painful?

Mesotherapy can by slightly uncomfortable as very small hyperdermic needles are used during the treatment session. However, topical anesthetics are applied to the skin surface prior to treatment, which in turn significantly reduces the painful aspects of this treatment regimens.

How many treatments are needed?

Smaller treatment areas like underneath the eyelids or below the chin can show significant improvement after just one treatment session. Medium treatment areas like the underarms may take between 3-4 treatments. Larger areas like the stomach or thighs can take between 6-8 treatments. Treatments results can last up to two years from treatment initiation.

The most significant side effect of Mesotherapy is mild pain and irritation at site of injections. The discomfort is a result of the inflammatory reaction that the solution induces in the body that helps lead to adipose cell death. Most patients complain of 3-5 days of soreness at injection site, which generally abate without the need for further intervention. Other potential side effects include allergic reaction and/or skin infections from the procedure.
